Karin Jane Neufeld, MD, MPH
Dr. Neufeld is the Clinical Director of the Department of Psychiatry and the Director of the Inpatient Psychiatry Consultation Service at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Her areas of cinical and scientific interest include 1) psychosomatic medicine, with a special focus on the measurement, treatment, and prevention of delirium in critically ill populations and in older postoperative patients, and 2) the care and treatment of patients with substance use disorders.
Dr. Neufeld chairs the Johns Hopkins Delirium Consortium - a multi-discipline and multi-campus collaboration that meets monthly to foster delirium research within the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. She is a Past President of the American Delirium Society, an organization dedicated to the advancement of delirium science. She continues to serve on the Board of Directors of this organization. As a delirium expert, she has served on the American Geriatrics Society Guideline Panel for the Treatment and Prevention of Postoperative Delirium in Older Adults, and is currently serving on the Society for Critical Care Medicine Expert Panel for the next publication of the Pain, Agitation, Delirium and Early Mobility Guidelines for the Intensive Care Unit.
