Chapters Transcript Video Educational Session: Research | Enriched Environments for Rehabilitation Wednesday, February 22 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. PST Preeti Raghavan, MBBS Research | Enriched Environments for Rehabilitation Hi everyone. It's a pleasure to invite you to attend our session on enriched environments for rehabilitation which will take place on Wednesday february 22nd in Anaheim at the Association of Academic psychiatrist conference. Um In this session I'll be talking about music enriched environments in post stroke recovery. You know it's very well known that enriched environments are those that combine cognitive stimulation, social interaction and physical activity. And interventions using music for instance have been shown to stimulate many parts of the brain. And the idea of using music music enriched environments was to see if they could enhance the substrate for post stroke recovery. Um And we'll be sharing some really exciting data on how not only did the patients improve physically mentally and psycho socially, but there were changes in um levels of growth factors that have been important for neuro plasticity such as brain derived neurotrophic factor levels. Um In the same session we will also have a presentation by doctors ambrose and verges on a social dancing intervention for cognitive impairment. Um and they will present exciting data showing that activities such as social dancing can actually reduce the progression of dementia. And finally brian Harris from mad rhythms will be talking about how we can bring these enriched environments into the real world by using digital music based applications that can provide rhythmic gait training wherever the patient is. Um So I hope you find this session informative and exciting and we hope to see you there Created by
