Preeti Raghavan, MBBS, Ronan Mooney, PhD, Paria Arfa Fatollahkhani, MD, MSC Educational Session: Research| New Evidence on the Origins and Manifestations of Spasticity and Muscle Stiffness and Their Potential Treatments
Hello everyone. Um We are going to be presenting a session on new evidence on the origins and manifestations of spasticity And muscle stiffness and their potential treatments at the Ap on Thursday, 23 in Anaheim. So this session is going to be about a new definition of spasticity that was proposed by dr sheng li and he's going to talk a little bit about why we need a new definition and what it really means that spasticity is not just velocity dependent increase in the stretch reflexes but there's also a length dependent change. And he's going to talk about proposed central mechanisms that includes excitation of the ridiculous spinal tract. Then dr jones. Stilling and Ryan Mooney will share exciting data on the role of the ridiculous spinal tract and how they have identified the role of the ridiculous spinal track in spasticity using transcranial magnetic stimulation. And finally I and paria fatal akani will present data on what happens in the periphery to the muscles when these central mechanisms are activated. How does it contribute? How do the muscles contribute to the exacerbation of spasticity and lead to stiffness and what the potential treatments for both the central and the peripheral mechanisms may be. Um Hope you come to this exciting session and we would love to see you there. Bye bye.
