Opioid Use in Adolescents: How Pediatricians Can Confront the National Overdose Crisis Identifying, Treating and Preventing Harm from Opioids

Camille Broussard, adolescent medicine physician at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, discusses her presentation about how pediatricians can confront the national overdose crisis by identifying, treating and preventing opioid use in adolescents. During her talk at the 2023 American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition, she discussed how to train pediatricians to screen and briefly intervene in pediatric primary care and subspeciality settings. This topic is important because many adults and adolescents die from opioid overdose each year. This presentation aimed to inspire pediatricians to get involved in the fight against opioid use disorder among adolescents and young adults.
