Chapters Transcript Video Pre-Existing Hypogonadism Does Not Impact Surgical Outcomes Following Primary Urethroplasty Detailed by Logan Galansky, MD, PGY-3, at the AUA Annual Meeting 2023. So, in this uh study, pre-existing hypogonadism does not impact surgical outcomes following primary erythro plasty. We were interested in looking at if uh testosterone levels which are known to affect uh functioning of the male genital urinary system, um would be a potential preoperative risk in patients who were undergoing a primary urethroplasty. And specifically, if patients who were hypogonadal and receiving testosterone replacement therapy, um would have better per operative outcomes after urethroplasty surgery. And so we used a large claims database uh in a retrospective cohort study. And what we found was that in well matched cohorts of u gonadal and hypogonadal patients undergoing urethroplasty. Preexisting hypogonadism did not appear to be an adverse predictor of surgical outcomes when looking at five year all cause endoscopic or surgical revision rates or surgical site infection rates. And we also did a sub analysis of hypogonad patients receiving testosterone replacement therapy and we found no difference in this cohort as well. Um So the overall takeaway being that um you know, hypogonadism does not appear to be a significant risk factor and these men can undergo urethroplasty without any additional treatment needed Created by
