System-Level Approach to Improve First COVID-19 Vaccine Dose Uptake in a Primary Care Setting - The Value of Health Educators

Experts from Johns Hopkins Children’s Center participated in various sessions and presentations during the 2023 Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting. In this video, Annemarie Swamy, an adolescent medicine fellow, discusses her PAS presentation about the importance of health educators and how they can discuss vaccine benefits/risks with eligible patients, and the primary care team’s role in vaccination encouragement. In this study, the research team wanted to determine whether interactions with health educators would increase the COVID-19 vaccine rate in patients ages 5–25, along with finding reasons for vaccine hesitancy within this age group. This study highlighted the positive impact that health educators have in improving vaccination care in pediatric patients.
