Meet Our New Pediatric Gastroenterologists

Kevin Cesa

Kevin Thomas Cesa
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics

Pediatric gastroenterologist Kevin Cesa specializes in diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and various gastroenterological issues in children. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Cesa obtained his medical degree from the Temple University medical school. He completed residency training in pediatrics at the University of Maryland Medical Center, then obtained a pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition fellowship at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

His research interests include treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and other gastroenterological conditions in children.

Kathryn Smith

Sara Kathryn Smith
Medical Director, Pediatric Liver Transplantation
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics

Pediatric gastroenterologist Sara Kathryn Smith specializes in diagnosis and treatment of liver disorders including primary sclerosing cholangitis, autoimmune hepatitis, Wilson’s disease, metabolic diseases, biliary atresia, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and acute liver failure.

She is also a trained pediatric hepatologist and the medical director of the pediatric liver transplantation program, with a special focus in caring for young patients before and after liver transplant surgery.

Smith obtained her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Jackson Memorial Hospital at the University of Miami, then performed a fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at Rady Children’s Hospital at the University of California San Diego. She also completed an advanced fellowship in pediatric transplant hepatology at Benioff Children’s Hospital at the University of California San Francisco.

Her research interests include pediatric autoimmune hepatitis and long-term outcomes after pediatric liver transplantation.
